What is Cat 1?
LTE Category 1 (Cat 1) is a technology that functions on a 20 MHz spectrum, has a transmit power of 23dBm. With speeds of 10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink, LTE Cat 1 is ideal for a vast number of more feature rich M2M and IoT applications, including those that require video streaming and voice support. In comparison to high speed 4G LTE categories, such as Cat 4 and greater, LTE Cat 1 provides low power consumption (up to 5 years) with extended idle and sleep modes, and less complexity, resulting in a lower cost structure.
Why we need Cat 1?
LTE Cat 1 sits between the high-speed LTE categories that are most commonly seen in smartphones and the low-speed LTE categories developed specifically for Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine to Machine (M2M) applications. It is the lowest cost LTE category that still has the required speeds to support data streaming.
Where can I use LTE Cat 1?
Four-Faith products are now fully compatible with LTE Cat 1 technology. By using Four-Faith LTE Cat 1 products such as the router, IP Modem or DPU, you can apply the devices to digital signage, ATMs, kiosks, video surveillance, vehicle telematics, cellular gateways and so on.
